Close ally of Donald Trump calls for genocide against entire U.S. Hispanic and Latino population
Laura Loomer claimed that alligators will get "at least 65 million meals" from new concentration camp in the Florida Everglades
The second Presidential administration of Donald Trump has already proven itself to be, by most objective standards, among the most cruel and barbaric administrations in U.S. history. Among the many inhumane actions of the second Trump Administration is the construction and opening of the Alligator Alcatraz concentration camp in the Florida Everglades, a swampy biome home to large populations of American alligators and Burmese pythons.
Laura Loomer, a far-right political activist and one of Trump’s closest political confidants, boasted on X (formerly Twitter) that “alligators are guaranteed at least 65 million meals if we get started now”. Loomer’s remark is presumably a reference to a would-be effort by the Trump Administration to commit genocide against the entire U.S. Hispanic and Latino population, which is slightly more than 65 million people, the vast majority of whom are either U.S. citizens or documented immigrants. When Loomer was called out over the extremely inhumane nature of her remark, she doubled down and falsely claimed that the entire U.S. Hispanic and Latino population consists of illegal aliens. There are no words that can adequately convey how disgusted and enraged I am at Loomer’s hateful, barbaric and unforgiveable remarks. For comparison, the Nazis murdered around six million Jewish people (estimates range anywhere from 5.1 million to 7 million) in the Holocaust, which is generally regarded as the largest genocide in human history. Loomer called for a much larger genocide against Hispanic and Latino Americans than the genocide that the Nazis committed against Jewish people.
Normally, I would dismiss someone like Loomer as a far-right political gadfly, but Loomer wields a ton of influence within the Trump Administration, and she may be the most influential person within the Administration with the possible exception of Stephen Miller, also an anti-immigrant extremist. Earlier this year, Loomer convinced Trump to fire numerous national security officials because she perceived them to be disloyal to Trump, and she also convinced Trump to revoke the nomination of his initial pick for Surgeon General, Janette Nesheiwat, because Nesheiwat had publicly supported necessary public health measures like vaccines. Additionally, it’s been rumored by, among others, comedian Bill Maher, that Loomer is in a romantic relationship with Trump, although Loomer has repeatedly denied these rumors.
Tomorrow, Trump is expected to sign the Big Ugly Bill, officially called the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, into law. The Big Ugly Bill contains increased funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). ICE has, since Trump took office again earlier this year, acted as a Gestapo-like secret police force against Hispanic and Latino Americans, without any regard for citizenship or immigration status. In fact, the Big Ugly Bill will give ICE a larger budget than many foreign nations’ entire miliary budgets, as well as the budget of every other federal law enforcement agency here in America.
While the Trump Administration hasn’t announced a roundup and detention of Hispanic and Latino Americans of the scope of, for example, the internment of Japanese Americans into concentration camps during World War II, yet, Loomer’s remarks should, to put it very mildly, scare everyone.
